make your summer days memorable
1) Take a day trip
Day trips are my favorite thing to do any time of year. It's not nearly as much commitment and planning as a full-blown vacation, but it's just as fun. Bring family, friends, a date, whoever you want. Grab some candy and good music for the car and you are SET.
Below are a few MN day trips I would recommend-
- Duluth- canal park, look for sea glass, get yummy ice cream from PortLand Malt Shop & enjoy being by Lake Superior! + would recommend touring the Glensheen Mansion to add a whole new dimension to your trip!
- Mankato- visit the Betsy-Tacy Houses where Maud Hart Lovelace and her best friend lived. Do some biking! And always make sure to stop at unique and fun roadside stops on the way!
- Niagara Cave- I found it so fun to tour this cave- such a unique experience. (bring a sweater!!)
- Lanesboro- bike and explore the cute downtown! Also would very much recommend camping!
- State Parks- To me, state parks are very underrated gems. I'm not a huge hiker, but I love the trails at Whitewater and Nerstrand.

- MPLS/St. Paul Day- This is still on my bucket list but I think it would very cool to research a ton of fun places between the 2 cities and explore! ( ex: Glam Doll Donuts, MIA, Mpls Sculpture Garden, Electric Fetus )
2) Bring a book on the hammock
I love our backyard hammock and reading is my favorite thing to do in it. Here are some books I've either already read this summer or are on my up next list!
- Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
- What I Leave Behind by Alison McGhee (met the author at school this year and left feeling so inspired by her. I'm so excited to read this!)
- The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
- Live Fearless by Sadie Robertson
- Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
- They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Sign up for a teen book club at your local library or look at your school's recommended reading list for other good ideas!
3) Take some time to clean out your closet and donate/sell any clothes you don't wear
It feels so good and you'll have more room in your closet for new summer clothes that you love!
4) Bike your state
MN has such a wonderful array of bike trails, and they all have different things to offer on the way. I love certain parts of the Paul Bunyan Trail up by Brainerd and the beautiful trails in Lanesboro. I also love exploring my neighborhood by bike!
5) Research free outdoor events in your area
Summer is the perfect time for outdoor concerts, movies, and other activities. You would be surprised to find out how many of these are free!
For example, Centennial Lakes has outdoor movies on Thursday nights at dark.
Find out what's available in your area and take advantage!
hope you enjoyed and found this helpful!
remember to make the most of each of these summer days, they are so precious.
xx, gracie
I love all of these ideas! So creative, Gracie!!!
